Webflow CMS Item Auto-Archiver

What it does

Automatically archives old Webflow CMS items (blog posts, case studies, product listings) based on view count, engagement metrics, and age to keep your site fresh and performant without manual content audits.

Why I recommend it

Outdated content clutters your site, hurts SEO, and slows down CMS management. Automated archiving keeps your site lean while preserving old content for reference without manual review overhead.

Expected benefits

  • Faster site performance with less content
  • Improved SEO by hiding outdated pages
  • Cleaner CMS with active content only
  • 2-3 hours saved monthly on content audits

How it works

Weekly/monthly scheduled check -> pull Webflow CMS items via API -> analyze metrics (page views, last updated date, bounce rate) -> archive items below threshold -> optionally add redirect to newer content.

Quick start

Export your Webflow CMS data and manually identify what should be archived based on age (2+ years old) and low traffic (< 10 views/month). Create an archive tag or collection, then automate the tagging process.

Level-up version

Add smart archiving rules: keep evergreen content active regardless of age, archive seasonal content automatically after the season ends, suggest content refresh vs archive based on search rankings, and auto-create redirects to related active content.

Tools you can use

CMS: Webflow

Analytics: Google Analytics, Webflow Analytics

Automation: Zapier, Make, n8n

Monitoring: Scheduled scripts, Airtable for tracking

Also works with

CMS platforms: WordPress, Contentful, Sanity, Prismic

Analytics: Mixpanel, Plausible, Fathom

SEO: Ahrefs, SEMrush for content performance data

Technical implementation solution

  • No-code: Google Analytics data -> export to Google Sheets -> filter items with <10 views in 90 days and >18 months old -> update Webflow CMS via Zapier to set “archived” status.
  • API-based: Scheduled function -> Webflow API fetch all CMS items -> Google Analytics API for pageview data -> calculate archiving score -> Webflow API PATCH to update status or delete.

Where it gets tricky

Avoiding false positives (archiving valuable evergreen content with seasonal dips), handling internal links that break when content is archived, managing redirects at scale, and balancing SEO value vs freshness.
